Summary.
I have been working as a product designer at a health care startup company called Aeyesafe for 9 months. During my time there, I have been to contributed a little bit to their design system as well as some platform interfaces level work.
My Role.
I was leading the design process of the design system. I collaborated closely with my designer colleagues, PMs, content, and engineers to build the design system as a resource or tool to share with other teammates and our stakeholders.
Final Results
Unified Alert: 4 UI components
We had a lot of types of mobile apps in different styles, and different guidelines before. Each designer in the team kind of has their own unofficial design system. I saw that teams are using cards, buttons, and components in their own way. So things just look really inconsistent. Finally, I got these 4 components: banners, “Alert Cards”, toast, and a modal, a full-screen alert moment. These four components can help us to provide clear guidelines for our teams and a unified App experience for our users and clients.
Design Handoff
After the design, I handed off these components for developers to build. I set up a clear page in Figma for engineers to view and leave comments. And I also describe the CTA and other detailed use cases of the components in a dock.
Accessibility Review
Before: Logo/Brand color has accessibility issue
I also fixed a high-impact accessibility issue when building the design system. The original logo blue color does not meet the color contrast criteria of WCAG 2.0. So it’s not suitable to be used as our primary color anymore.
After: Primary color meet WCAG criteria
I chose the shade of the logo blue color that can reach color harmony with our logo and also meet the accessibility standard as well. This is the primary blue color that we currently used for all the components in our system.
